Professor receives two prestigious awards

UTSA’s
Department of Counseling would like to congratulate associate professor Priscilla Rose Prasath, Ph.D., for receiving the Texas Counseling Association’s Outstanding Writing Award and the Southern Association for Counselor
Education and Supervision’s Outstanding Teaching Award. Prasath, who moved to the US from India in 2012 and has been teaching since 2015, is in her third year of teaching at UTSA.

New spring course focuses on global Blackness and
Afro-Latinidad identity

The Department
of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies presents a new course this spring titled “Global Blackness and Afro-Latinidad”, which will explore racial identity and histories and look at the African Diaspora through a transnational lens. The
cross-listed course in African American and Mexican American Studies in — is spearheaded by Marc
Perry, associate professor.

The UTSA Department of Counseling’s Bilingual Counseling Certificate training program was designed to meet the needs of the underserved
Latino community. The training program also includes a multidisciplinary approach by collaborating with UTSA’s
Department of Bicultural and Bilingual Studies to provide bilingual and bicultural instruction.

“We welcome students and UTSA community members to stop by and add items in remembrance of loved ones,” Lozano said. “We built the ofrenda as
a way to share our love of this beautiful celebration with our UTSA family. There will be interactive activities for guests to either take with them or leave on the ofrenda.”
