COU student awarded $20,000 counseling fellowship from NBCC and affiliates

The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), recently selected Samantha Airhart-Larraga, doctoral student in the Department of Counseling, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP fellow, Airhart-Larraga will receive funding and training to support her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations. (Courtesy of the NBCC Foundation).

ELPS faculty, alumni receive awards during AERA Annual Meeting

Dr. Mariela Rodriguez, associate dean in the UTSA Graduate School and associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, along with two colleagues, Dr. Carol Mullen and Dr. Tawannah Allen, won the 2017 Action Research SIG Best Paper Award for "Reculturing Learning Organizations from the Inside to Diversify and Change: An Action Research Study." The award was presented to the group at the SIG Business Meeting during the AERA Annual Meeting. In addition, Dr. Venus Valenta, ELPS alumna and principal in SAISD, earned Third Place for Outstanding Dissertation with the Hispanic Research Issues SIG. The award was presented to her at the SIG Business Meeting during the AERA conference. Dr. Margarita Machado-Casas, associate professor in BBL, is also in the photograph as the Hispanic Research Issues SIG Chair.

Undergraduate students receive special awards for research

Google Docs Phishing Scam Making Its Way To Inboxes

Google is warning about a new scam plaguing customers. The company says a phishing email is being sent to people inviting them to view a Google Docs document. The email usually comes from a known contact. Clicking on the invitation takes the recipient to a Google sign-in that actually gives scammers access to your email and contact list.
