Academy for Teacher Excellence NCLR Líderes Avanzando |
The Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) at The University of Texas
at San Antonio (UTSA) is partnering with the National Council of La Raza to offer the Líderes Avanzando program to UTSA and Alamo College students. Thirty college students will participate in bi-monthly, interactive workshops during the spring 2017 semester
to help participants be successful in college. Topics will include building relationships, studying and time management, self-care, and financial aid. The program is targeted to Latina/o and first generation college students, though non-Latina/o and non-first
generation college students are welcome to participate. Participants who complete all requirements will receive a $400 stipend.

Ramiro Nava, doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership
and Policy Studies, is one of four people to receive the Texas Association of School Administrators' 2017 Johnny L. Veselka Scholarship. He, along with the other three recipients, will be honored at the TASA midwinter conference at the end of the month. |

learning how to read. While she was pregnant with Daliyah, her mother would read books to her other young children on a daily basis. When Daliyah was an infant, she would hear her older brother reading chapters of books out loud in their Gainesville, Ga.,
home. And by the time she was about 18 months old, she was recognizing the words in the books her mother read her.
