ELPS honors outstanding alumni

The College of Education and Human Development's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies recently honored two outstanding alumni from the department. Drs. Patty Escobedo and Geri Berger, both of whom received their doctorates from UTSA, were recognized and presented with an Outstanding Alumni Award at a special ceremony earlier this month. Celebrating 50 Years: UTSA is Born

Laura Bassi Scholarship
The Laura Bassi Scholarship, which will award a total of $8,000 thrice per annum, was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed. The scholarships are open to every discipline and the next round of funding will be awarded in July:

Summer 2019
Application deadline: 25 July 2019
Results: 15 August 2019

All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of their employment. Applicants are required to submit a completed application form along with their CV through the application portal by the relevant deadline. One of every three U.S. college students shows symptoms of a mental health problem such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder or being suicidal, according to a study by Sara Oswalt, of the University of Texas at San Antonio, and another researcher in their 2018 report, “Trends in college students’ mental health diagnoses and utilization of services, 2009-2015.”
