Good afternoon HBCU/MI Community leaders, scholars, and allies –
I’m writing to share news about an exciting initiative geared toward HBCU/MI junior faculty currently conducting research in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML): the Army - HBCU/MI Faculty Immersion Program!
The goal of this new program is to foster collaboration, enhance research capabilities, and encourage participation in DoD programs and activities by covered educational institutions. The program will be executed over two (2) years, under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2362, in three (3) phases:
· Phase 1
Ten (10) week placement at an Army laboratory for collaboration with Army researchers.
· Phase 2:
Semester-long placement at a high-research activity, Carnegie Classified R1 Institute of Higher Education (IHE) for joint collaboration with Army and R1 researchers. As an important note: a key expected outcome of this phase is development of an Army-relevant proposal for research in the next phase.
· Phase 3:
Faculty return to home institution to continue research collaboration with Army and R1 researchers for eighteen (18) months.
