Subject: [Coehd] Announcement: Interim Chair for Department of Counseling
Importance: High
Greetings COEHD,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Gerald Juhnke, Professor in Counseling, will be serving as interim department chair for Counseling effective today. Dr. Juhnke’s career at UTSA launched in 2004. Throughout his time here he has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of the Counseling department. He is an accomplished scholar with proven leadership capabilities, which will serve the department well. It should be noted Dr. Juhnke in a prior role served as Associate Dean for the Graduate School between 2017-2019 where he engaged in an array of academic and supervisory duties and tasks that correspond closely to the duties and responsibilities of department chair. Besides his impressive qualifications and experiences, Dr. Juhnke provides much needed stability and continuity during a critical time for the department. I’m confident Counseling will continue to flourish under his leadership. I also wish to recognize our Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Success, Dr. Heather Trepal, who provided the department steady leadership over the last several months and masterfully balanced her obligations to both roles. I would also be remiss not to acknowledge the superb contributions of department faculty and staff during this time. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated faculty and servants. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Juhnke on his appointment.
