Celebrando 30 Años: UTSA MAS Cultura, Conocimiento, y Comunidad

Friday, March 08, 2024

6:00-9:00 PM

La Villita Room - Durango Building, UTSA Downtown Campus

We welcome everyone from UTSA and San Antonio community to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Mexican American Studies program at the University of Texas at San Antonio this evening. We'll be celebrating this milestone with a reception, panel, and alumni testimonials.

In its 30 years of existence, the MAS program has provided students with an undergraduate experience that affirms their cultural and linguistic wealth and activates their communities’ genealogies of social change. The event will give UTSA students, faculty, and community a space to celebrate and discuss the past, present, and future of MAS.

UTSA Democratizing Racial Justice Project to fund 10 local art projects

The UTSA Democratizing Racial Justice (DRJ) Project has selected 10 local artists for its 2024 Artist in Residency Program from a competitive pool of nearly 40 artists from the greater San Antonio area. The artists are receiving a stipend to fund their work for the duration of their project using a variety of media including music, multimedia, poetry, storytelling and visual art.

“It’s important for us to work closely with different community organizations and artists to create artistic projects,” said Alejandra Elenes, DRJ principal investigator (PI) and chair of the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
