Spotlight: Academic Excellence
Spring
2016 semester starts Monday!
The steps adjacent to the Humanities and Social Sciences Building were virtually empty this week after the Christmas and New Year's holidays. But that is soon to change as students, faculty and
staff return after the holidays. The scene soon will look very different. and more like the picture at left on January 11. Some students are on campus this week to enroll for the spring
semester, but all will return will return to normal with the start of classes.

Each year the university schedules a COEHD Tenure and Promotion forum hosted by Provost Frederick, Dean Merchant, and a selection of departmental colleagues. It is my job to manage those this year and COEHD’s event is scheduled
on January 14, 2016 from 2-4 pm in the Buena Vista Building (BV 1.322) of the Downtown Campus. If you are an untenured faculty member preparing for tenure review or a tenured faculty member preparing to go up for Full Professor, please plan to join us for
this session. There will be ample opportunities to ask questions and to clarify the process.

Study:
Millennials Spend More Than 3 Hours a Day on Mobile Phones

The average U.S. millennial (aged 16-30) with Internet access spends 3.1 hours a day on a mobile phone — totaling 21.7 hours a week or 1,128 hours (47 days) a year, according to a new study from global research consultancy TNS.
The annual Connected Life study surveys more than 60,000 Internet users across 50 countries on their digital attitudes and behaviors.
