Two faculty members from the College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition were awarded first place for their research poster in the Professional Research Poster category at the American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Annual Meeting in May.

Getting more school students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) fields is increasingly important, and engaging Hispanic students in those fields can be a challenge. It helps for those students to have Hispanic teachers who can serve as role models.

ELPS student to perform at World Cup

Cirilo Campos, a graduate student in The University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) and member of the UTSA Urban School Leaders Collaborative, will travel to Brazil this summer to perform during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

iPads In Special Education??? What Does The Research Say?

This week, NPR Ed's Eric Westervelt visited a special education classroom in New York City where iPads are being used in a novel way. Students with a range of severe disabilities, including developmental, mental, physical and autism spectrum disorders, are using apps alongside traditional instruments to help express themselves through music.

Full moon and Friday the 13th collide this week

Not only does Friday land on the 13th this month, but there will also be a full moon in the night sky. Creepy?


Deeply rooted in Christian traditions and events (Christ was crucified on a Friday, the Knights Templar were rounded up on Friday the 13th), the "BAD LUCK" day can send some people scurrying while others can dismiss the notion with a hearty guffaw. However you feel personally about these two events, the Weather Network says the combination of a full moon and Friday the 13th is so rare it won't happen again until 2049, and considering all the factors that had to come together to make this rare occurrence, perhaps we should see it as lucky rather than unlucky.
