This year, San Antonio is partnering with the Annette Strauss Institute at UT-Austin to bring their signature youth civic engagement event, Speak Up! Speak Out!, to San Antonio.
Middle and high school students are asked to identify the big issues facing our community and offer their best solutions, and we need your help in identifying the best of the best solutions. We have an urgent need for folks who can help with the first round of student competitions this Thursday 11/29 and next Monday 12/3 (1 or 2 hour shifts), and we would also welcome additional judges for the final round at UTSA Dec. 5. Please go to this sign-up sheet to sign up for the school-based events, or send an email directly to organizer Jeanne Russell if you would like to sign up for either or both events.

Student teams from Krueger Middle School, Advanced Learning Academy, International School of the Americas, CAST Tech, and CAST STEM will have an opportunity to be recognized in several categories. Most exciting is a "judge's choice" category, where you can single out a project that you would like to help advance - through a policy change, a small investment, or a partnership with the student team. Finalists will advance to a statewide competition in Austin in February, and several student teams will also have the opportunity to share their projects locally at area events, including SA2020’s Annual Impact Report Luncheon in January.
San Antonio is creating a prototype for the state of Texas, and we expect this event, hosted by UTSA and in partnership with P16 Plus Council, SA2020, UTSA Center for Civic Engagement, City of San Antonio, MOVE Texas, and ESC 20, to grow in the years to come. Join us to make it a huge success!
