In this presentation, Dr. Flores will discuss his raciolinguistic genealogy as outlined in Chapter 10 of his latest book. He will delve into his family history, his experiences with racialization due to his use of Spanish, and his
professional journey in bilingual education. Dr. Flores will connect his personal narrative to broader societal and political contexts, examining the impact of colonialism, the Bilingual Education Act, and deficit ideologies on language and education.
About Dr. Nelson Flores:
Dr. Nelson Flores is a Professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE). His research focuses on critical bilingualism, race, and language in education. He is the author of numerous
publications, including the book "Bilingualism and Ideology: Language, Race, and the Politics of English in the United States."
