Colleagues, please the notice below from IES and my invitation to start a discussion with you if you plan to submit an IES grant this summer. Michael

SBIR Update: The 2020 Phase I Program is NOW OPEN, submissions due by March 3, 2020

The Department of Education and Institute of Education Sciences’ Small Business Innovation Research program (ED/IES SBIR) has just released its Fiscal Year 2020 Phase I solicitation.ED/IES SBIR is accepting Phase I proposals for awards of up to $200,000 and 8 months for the development of prototypes of education technology products to improve relevant student, teacher, or administrator outcomes in education and special education settings.

Apply today: The deadline is March 3, 2020, at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

ED/IES SBIR provides funding to small businesses and their partners for the research, development, and evaluation of commercially viable education technology products.

You may want to look at the annual funding opportunities for IES (noted below) that are typically due in August/September, and which can take several months to plan and develop. The application materials are often not available until late spring or early summer (and, oddly, the same day as the letters of intent are due—see example from last year below).

For these, you want to be thinking and planning months in advance, well before the annual announcement is publicized. Like now. Starting conversations with collaborators now is wise.

If you are interested in developing a proposal for one of these IES grants, contact me so I can help you start to pull together the people, forms, and resources you may need to get the ball rolling.
