COEHD professor, student organization receive University Excellence Awards

Dr. Zenong Yin, professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition, and the Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO), housed in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, received University Excellence Awards at a special ceremony on Thursday, April 19. Yin received the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Research Achievement, and BESO received the UTSA President's Distinguished Diversity Awards for the Student Group category. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP for Upward Bound Programming
We are looking for two graduate students for graduate assistantships working with the TRIO Upward Bound Program. The graduate assistantship will be for 19 hours per week beginning June 1, 2018. Program Dates are June 11 - July 20.

Description of Job Duties
1. Deliver quality academic assistance to high school students during Summer Academic Program June 11-July 20
2. Accompany students on bus rides to and from high school campus to UTSA Main Campus
3. Assist Retention Specialists’ track students’ academic progress
4. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions to discuss student progress and tutoring needs
5. Perform other duties as assigned  


Other Skills Preferred:
1. Good interpersonal and organizational skills
2. Must be responsible, flexible and maintain a professional attitude

Qualifications
Applicants must be current graduate students in the College of Education and Human Development. Candidates must maintain enrollment in at least three hours of graduate course credit during summer 2018. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in graduate work, or if entering the program, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. Successful experience in working with students in a helping relationship is desirable; experience in use of computers is required.


Salary
Candidates may be paid $11.99/ hour.

After an initial screening, candidates may be invited for an interview. Review of applications will begin on May 8, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. Note, this position is pending budget approval.

New Fiesta music festival comes to UTSA Park West

The UTSA Alumni Association and the San Antonio Parks Foundation have partnered to host the Chaparral Music Festival on Saturday, April 21 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the UTSA Park West Athletics Complex located at 800 TX-1604 Loop and Kyle Seal Parkway.
