The Graduate School Experience

for Advanced Undergraduates in German Studies
November 15-16, 2024

Project funded by the DAAD/German Academic Exchange Service

Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at The The Ohio State University

The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at The Ohio State University invites you to nominate up to two of your undergraduate students for our fully funded Graduate School Experience workshop. Offered with the generous assistance of the DAAD, this workshop introduces promising undergraduate students to graduate education (M.A., Ph.D.) in German Studies.

Participants will explore the interdisciplinary field of German Studies through sessions in areas such as Environmental Humanities, Decolonization, German-Jewish Studies, Intellectual History, Medieval Studies, Narrative Theory, Comparative Film and Media Studies, and Second-Language Pedagogy, led by Ohio State faculty. Current graduate students will share their experiences and a panel of faculty and recent alumni will discuss academic and non- academic career opportunities after the M.A. and Ph.D.

Eligible students will have junior or senior standing, show an interest in German language, literature, and cultures, and possess strong academic records as well as an aptitude for research and independent thinking. German majors and other students with sustained interest in German are welcome.

*Each program may nominate up to two undergraduate students.

Students will enjoy the intellectually stimulating sessions, the beautiful campus and resources at OSU, and a night out in Columbus. Airfare within the U.S., lodging, events, and meals are provided for participants.

Application process:

Admission to the workshop is by faculty nomination.
Nominators should e-mail Natascha Miller, miller.521@osu.edu, with:

1.          The name and e-mail address of the student interested in attending, and
