Dr. David Hünlich has taught various German language and culture courses at UTSA. This spring, he teaches an Honors course on Texas Germans. He's offering two excursions for his class and opened up registration to the UTSA German program.

Exploring the Historic Ferdinand Herff Farm at Cibolo Nature Center, Sa, April 12th, 10.30 am

Join me for a visit to the Farmers Market and the historic farm of Ferdinand Herff, a pioneering medical figure in San Antonio. Members of the Cibolo Nature Center, now stewards of the land, will guide us through the house and property, sharing insights into its history and significance. Additionally, Jim Kearney, an seasoned expert on German conservationist influences in Texas agriculture, has confirmed to join and speak to us.

 

Hiking to the Enigmatic "Zizelmann House" in Government Canyon, Su, April 13th, 9.00 am

We will embark on a hike through Government Canyon State Natural Area to explore the mysterious "Zizelmann House"—a home built by a German baker in San Antonio but seemingly never inhabited. Phoenix McFarlane, head of the UTSA German Club, who conducted research on this intriguing site, will accompany us. Additionally, Jim Kearney, an seasoned expert on German conservationist influences in Texas agriculture, has confirmed to join and speak to us.
