From: Heir Joshua Ferrer <heirjoshua.ferrer(a)utsa.edu>
My name is Heir Ferrer, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Linguistics Society at UTSA
(LXS) to share an exciting opportunity for students and language enthusiasts.
We are currently running our Language Buddies Program, a language exchange program
designed to connect students who want to practice different languages with one another in
a structured, supportive environment. This is a great way for students to enhance their
language skills, learn about different cultures, and build a strong language-learning
community on campus. We also offer support for international and exchange students in
practicing and learning English.
At the moment, we have a handful of students looking for partners that are proficient in
German. I was wondering if you can share this program during your German conversation
table meeting that is being held on Wednesdays 3-4. We want to support all of our German
learners in the program as best as possible. Also, if instead you would like a
representative to speak about the program sometime during the meeting, please let me
know.
We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word to your students. If possible,
could you share this information and the attached flyer with:
✅ your classes either during class or through the Canvas announcements page.
✅ international/exchange students.
✅ speakers of other languages, especially German.
Here are the key details:
Who can join? Any student interested in practicing any language, regardless of proficiency
level, or in sharing their language and culture with others.
How does it work? Participants will be paired based on their complementary language goals
and meet at their convenience to practice in a balanced and structured way with each
other.
How to sign up?

We believe this program will be a valuable resource for students looking to improve their
language skills in an informal yet productive setting and it is COMPLETELY FREE. Please
let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to facilitate
sharing this information.
Thank you so much for your time and support!

INFORMATION:

WHAT is the Language Buddies program?
Language Buddies is a free program that helps YOU learn a new language by practicing with
native/more fluent speakers. Instead of just studying from a book, you get real-life
experience by talking with others, which makes learning easier and more natural.
HOW does this program work?
Our Language Exchange Coordinator (LEC) pairs you with a buddy based on your target
languages and preferences. Once matched, together you’ll arrange weekly meetups to
practice language! For extra support, you can opt for check-ins from us to stay on track
and make the most of the program.
WHO is this program for?
Open to domestic students and faculty looking to practice their target language, as well
as international students who might want to improve their English or Spanish. It’s also a
great way to make multicultural friends!
Whether you’re interested in language exchange or just need a tutor, you can join to
learn, teach, or both—whatever fits your goals
WHEN & WHERE is this program available?
The program is catered towards those at UTSA and is available throughout the semester.
Check-ins and pairing will pause during breaks and kick back up the start of the semester.
Though if you are already paired you are free to continue meeting with your buddy!
WHY?
One of the Linguistics Society's missions is to promote multilingualism and
multiculturalism within the UTSA community. What better way to do that than to offer free
language exchange services!
