Dear all,
I hope this email finds everyone well - please be reminded that we are having our social brown bag luncheon to welcome new international faculty this Thursday at 1pm in the casual seating area @ Faculty Center. Bring your own food and mingle with new colleagues who just made a big transition in their lives!
Immediately afterwards at 2pm, we will get together to discuss
group business. Among other things, we will meet Heather Shipley
during our last meeting this fall and need a game plan on how to
approach Academic Affairs. And, as always, yu can bring any issues
to the meeting or send them to me ahead so that I can put them on
the agenda!
Please let me know if you have any questions and I look forward
to seeing everyone on Thursday!
Matthias
PS: If you know other international faculty, either new or already here, please reach out to them and extend the invitation!
Dear all,
We had a small but productive meeting yesterday. In order for our group to continue our discussion on institutional immigration support, we have invited Heather Shipley from Academic Affairs to provide us with the most recent update on policies. I will let you know if and when she can join us.
For our next meeting, we also want to specifically invite international faculty from the new cohort and have a social brown bag luncheon at 1pm on Oct. 27th before the official meeting even begins. If you are available on that day, come join us as we provide new faculty with the opportunity to check-in with the group and share their experience after their first two months at UTSA.
On a somewhat related note, we also reached out to the UTSA International Students group to see if they have any events we can get involved in or maybe provide some targeted mentoring.
Finally, there is a faculty resource fair next week and our affinity group could host a table. From those present yesterday, unfortunately no one is available though. If you want to present our group to the wider UTSA faculty on Oct 7th, please let me know and I can get you in touch with Judy Vernon who is coordinating the event.
Thank you for being a part of our group & if anything comes up that you would like to discuss, please reach out to me and I will put it on the agenda!
I hope to see all of you (or at least more! 😊) at the brown bag social or the next group meeting afterwards on Oct 27th!

Subject: [Intfaculty] International Faculty Affinity Group - Fall MeetingsDear all,
I hope you have been off to a productive semester start - here is the schedule for our fall meetings:
- Thursday, 09/29, 2-3pm, JPL Faculty Center 4.04.12c
- Thursday, 10/27, 2-3pm, JPL Faculty Center 4.04.12c
- Thursday, 12/01, 2-3pm, JPL Faculty Center 4.04.12c
I am sure these collide with someone's teaching schedule but remember that our meetings are informal and we will make sure everyone is updated even if they cannot be there. Also, what's nice about meeting at 2 is that whoever wants to can meet a little early in the casual seating area and enjoy lunch together before the meeting.
Since folks seem to prefer the Microsoft calendar, I will send out an official invitation next. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me and suggest items for the agenda - whatever you want to discuss in this group this semester should be on there!
Matthias
