You are absolutely correct, Dr. Burke! There is another word in Spanish that means chaos, but it is considered a type of swear word, called “desmadre”. A popular Dual Language consultant/specialist and Translanguaging advocate, Dr. Jose Medina, is well known for his phrase “¡Desmadre! In the Name of Equidad (equity) and Social Justice!”. He was one of the primary influences that sparked my passion for providing space for Translanguaging and Cross-linguistic connections in Dual Language and Bilingual education.
