Where did RtI come from? Here is a piece from the archives by George/Rob on where RtI
comes from and its relationship to PBIS- I suppose we are all “tainted” now in some
quarters- as it is associated with the conservative emphasis at that time on establishing
an evidence-base in education, NCLB, and literacy, with the Bush administration- separate
discussion also on PBIS roots we would need to have- there are two traditions- one from
the low incidence (e.g., intellectual disabilities), which tend to be more advocacy and
community based, and those from the emotional and behavioral disorder tradition, which
tend to be more school based.
Every field has its traditions and what things came out of- Eslami/Bowman could likely
relate a similar story from Bilingual tradition which is a bit separate from the ESL
tradition…. Same with General education- or curriculum and instruction…. part of our job
is to do as my colleague Mike Nelson said- “To get the Farmers and the Ranchers to talk to
one another.”
