SUBJECT: Recycled Copy Paper Now Available in General Stores
The Purchasing and Distribution Services Department is pleased to announce that General
Stores now carries 30% recycled copy paper in addition to the standard virgin copy paper.
We recently had 10 departments test the recycled copy paper and found it to be no
different in machine use and presentation when compared to virgin paper. Though higher in
price, the
Conservatree.org website
(
http://www.conservatree.org/paper/PaperTypes/RecyBrochure.shtml) provides clear
information on quality, availability, myths, and environmental benefits to the purchase
and regular use of recycled paper.
Sustainability is important to UTSA and the State of Texas legislature. The Handbook of
Operating Procedures (section 9.43) discusses the importance of sustainability at all UTSA
campuses with the creation of the Sustainability
Council<https://www.utsa.edu/gov/committees/Sustainability.html> and full support
and commitment from the CMO. In addition, the Texas Government Code § 2155.448(a) lists
recycled content copier paper as "First Choice," stating it is the default
product of choice for all state agencies including institutions of higher education.
