This is a good question.  The UTSA SB17 site suggests contacting Legal Affairs for questions.  I think that’s best here; they should review the request and make a call on the allowability.

Subject: [Rowdy.research] Question regarding faculty participation in Diversity Review Panels

Hi Everyone,

I have a Faculty member asking about participation in a NIH Promoting Diversity in Neuroscience Panel.  He just reached out to me and asked if this is acceptable based on the Texas Law, SB17 (?) that was passed regarding participation in diversity groups.

He asked if participating in this review, “Z46: Research Opportunities for New Investigators to Promote Workforce Diversity”, will cause any trouble.

Does anyone have experience with this?
