Re: Project DIVERSE Research Interests - Google Forms
by Diana Infante-De Leon
Hi Dulce!
The link provided is the creator's link, not the blank Google form to fill
out.
I think if you hit create and publish, it might work. I tried filling this
one out but Aisha's and Dr. BP's info is on it. I use Google Forms
regularly, my cell is 210-632-1418, please call or text me if I can help in
any way!

Re: Project DIVERSE Research Interests - Google Forms ***New Link***
by Diana Infante-De Leon
When I click on the link it says I need permission to access. Before
publishing and sharing, there is an area that should say “general Access”
with a dropdown menu to release restrictions. Click on “Anyone with the
link” so that other emails can get access. 😊

Summer Institue Feedback
by Kathy Ewoldt
Hello All!
It was wonderful to see (and meet) you in Waco this week for our first annual Summer Institute! While it is still fresh in your mind, could you please take a few moments to answer this brief feedback survey? It will give us insight as we move ahead.
Thanks for your help!

Note: To have the form translated into another language, please click on the immersive reader icon and then on the reading preferences. (This is a neat feature, although still a little clunky in some regards.)

Pew- Parenting in America Today
by Burke, Mack
See below- the cultural items start on page 3- see what rings true and what doesn’t. Remember- these are not absolutes- there is always variation both within and between groups.
Like on the item- “Mothers are far more likely than fathers to describe themselves as overprotective and to say they give in to their children too quickly”- I couldn’t help but chuckle- SHB was likely overprotective- but I was the softy- she was actually the disciplinarian of the two of us. MDB
Parenting in America Today
Mental health concerns top the list of worries for parents; most say being a parent is harder than they expected

Also take a look at this one I left off- we will discuss disproportionality issues at some point- I am friends with Paul Morgan whose research shows that African-Americans are underrepresented in special education once you take into account risk factors, but as a raw number, they are overrepresented (depending on the disability area). Likewise, as an overall number, there are many more students who could be identified and need services, and so we have long held there is under identification across the board. Depending on how you interpret it- one can go a lot of different ways….in part- it depends on whether or not you see special education as a force for good…or is bad and should be dismantled.
He has been one that has pushed back on dismantling and defunding special education in the past.

I like Gwen C’s piece also, she diverges from Morgan, but does so also in a principled and evidence-based way that we aren’t seeing right now.
Hill Walker has said special education is on life support. At some point in your preparation, we will talk about whether these positions can be reconciled, and if so, how?

Attached for those interested in PBIS/EBD are some of Gwen Cartedge’s work- She is retired now I think from Ohio State- Dr. BP knows her better than I do I think…but I am good friends with her frequent co-author- Lefki Kourea, who returned to her home country a few years back and is now at University of Nicosia in Cyprus. Here are some we have cited or used in the past- as you can see…the PBIS/sped community is somewhat of a cosmopolitan group. MDB
