Hi Jennifer,
Thank you. I wasn't quite sure what they meant by outside source, so I think I was
misunderstanding it. Dr. Zhang is being awarded an STTR and the company he is working
with will be renting space at UTSA as part of the agreement. At the time I wrote this
email, I didn't realize the other support form was being submitted by the company, not
UTSA. Because the company is renting the space, we are not providing space to them as
in-kind, so they should not have to disclose the space rental as in-kind. Is my
understanding correct?
Thanks again!
Liz

Hello, Liz,
According to the context, in-kind support is support from an outside source.
UTSA resources, such as space, people, and labs, would not be in-kind support.
What is your question? I am not sure that I am addressing this in the right way.
Jennifer

Subject: [Rowdy.research] In-kind support on NIH other support form
Hi All,
I have a question regarding the statement below:
Other Support also includes in-kind contributions (such as office/laboratory space,
equipment, supplies, or employees or students supported by an outside source). In-kind
contributions do not constitute a 'recipient share' of the expenditures, and do
not need to be included in the SF-425 FFR.
* If in-kind contributions are intended for use on the project being proposed to NIH
in this application, the information must be included as part of the Facilities and Other
Resources or Equipment section of the application and need not be replicated on this
form.
* In-kind contributions not intended for use on the project/proposal being proposed in
this application must be reported below. If the time commitment or dollar value is not
readily ascertainable, reasonable estimates should be provided.
*
Normally, I do not see faculty addressing in-kind support, but to me, it looks like they
need to talk about lab space, etc. that is provided to them, even if not relevant to the
project.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Liz
