CHE 1121 & CHE 1131

One section of CHE 1121 (capacity 24) and one section of CHE 1131 (capacity 20) has been opened to all students and do not require departmental approval. I am aware that these seats will fill quickly for the numerous majors that require these courses. Update on COS Restricted Courses

As Senior registration approaches, I wanted to send the advising community the latest update on restricted COS courses. I had previously sent a message that BIO 1404, 1414 and 2313 would be restricted until mid-November. As per the Associate Dean of COS, Dr. Craig Jordan, this restriction has been removed. Also, we just recently heard that the CHE department would be restricting the labs for General CHE I and General CHE II (CHE 1121 & 1131) to only CHE and BCH majors. Again, Dr. Jordan advocated for students outside of these majors, and the compromise is that certain sections of these labs will be restricted to these majors and only for a limited amount of time. As I review the class schedule, it seems that they all have the "B" note which is that the student needs special authorization for the course provided by the department. I am working to get clarification to see if some of these labs will be released for non-majors, but thought I'd send this message, now, as everyone is beginning to see the influx of students attempting to register, and may be wondering what is currently happening with these Gen CHE labs. FYI - Sylvia Dear Colleagues, African American Studies program is proud of having Dr. Fred Bonner as our Visiting Research Scholar for the Fall 2017 Semester. Dr. Fred Bonner II is a professor and Endowed Chair in Educational Leadership and Counseling at Prairie View A&M University whose research focuses on African-American males. Dr. Bonner was awarded and endowed chair and given his own center that focuses on helping to advance the status of minority populations across P-20 education and workplace contexts.
