Contacts within Honors for more information Honors Opportunities for All Students: Fulbright Campus Visit (April 7th) Learn about the Fulbright Student Program and how to apply to travel in the 2022-2023 cycle! The Fulbright Student Program is the educational exchange flagship program that sees thousands of students travel abroad following graduation to study, research, or teach English as a second language. Students travel on 10-month programs that are fully funded by the US Department of State. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students who will graduate by Spring 2022 are especially encouraged to attend. Alumni are also eligible to apply. Base eligibility for the program is that you are a US citizen. There is no minimum GPA and prior foreign travel is not required. This workshop is a campus visit by the Fulbright Student Program and a former attendee of the program. In their poster and presentation, students talk about how they met Honors College learning outcomes, followed the Honors College ethos, and completed an experience in Service, Professional Development, Intellectual Achievement & Research, Cultural Exploration, Engaged Living, and Skill Development (the "SPICES"). Judges come from across our university: wonderful staff like Advising, faculty from all colleges, and graduate students. [cid:image003.jpg@01D7260D.EA437A00] Meet Stephen Gentzel Academic Advising Unit: Engineering, Math, & Physical Sciences Kudoboard for Stephen: https://utsaadvising.kudoboard.com/boards/TrGudsQE/stephengentzel Stephen Gentzel is a lifelong Texan and reluctant millennial currently residing in Dallas. When not helping students work toward their education and career goals at his day job, he enjoys long walks by the lake and learning useless facts from random Wikipedia articles. Stephen loves to travel and not being able to take a vacation was one of the worst things about 2020 in his book. His favorite type of food is Thai, and he can even make a few half-decent Thai dishes. He has a deep love for dogs because they are all good boys but hasn't committed to getting one yet. Stephen has a BBA in Supply Chain Management with a minor in History from Baylor University and has served as an Academic Advisor for Dallas College at the Eastfield Campus since 2018. He is excited to join the fine folks of UTSA and help students design a better and richer life for themselves. [cid:image004.jpg@01D7260D.EA437A00] Meet Austin Lord Academic Advising Unit: Engineering, Math, & Physical Sciences Kudoboard for Austin: https://utsaadvising.kudoboard.com/boards/sMKxuAWW/austinlord Experience: Austin has spent several years in student service roles at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State). He started as a New Student Orientation Leader in Summer 2013, a position he continued in for two more summers. Before working in the College of Science and Mathematics, Austin also worked in the Learning Center as a Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader, in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a grader, and in the College of Social Sciences as a Probation/Disqualification Graduate Intern. Since 2017, Austin has worked in the College of Science and Mathematics. He has transitioned from Graduate Intern to My Degree Plan Specialist to a full-time Academic Advisor, a job he has served in since 2018. Education: Austin is an alumnus of Fresno State. After earning a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Austin entered the Counseling Program to earn his Master's Degree in Counseling, specializing in the Student Affairs and College Counseling option. Personal: Outside work hours Austin enjoys playing video games (often fast-paced adventure or racing games), going rock climbing (indoors at the gym only!), and taking care of his baby, a 2018 Civic Type R in Aegean Blue. If there were more hours in the day, Austin would like to read more and take part in a campus car club, which he previously served as the staff advisor for at Fresno State. Subject: Fall 2021 Schedule Update Good morning, Deans, Assoc./Assist. Deans and Department Chairs. Currently, Banner is off while our office makes room assignments and checks peak times. We are working on a mismatch/error report to send to your schedulers. Banner will open tomorrow morning (Thursday, March 25) for updates, changes and additions. Banner will close again on Monday, March 29, 2021. Please make sure all changes are completed by this time. We will continue to provide updates and we will be communicating any potential enrollment issues as fall registration opens and continues. Please note that although priority registration begins April 5th, you will begin seeing new Freshmen students in courses as early as March 29. These students are our new FR who have completed orientation and who will be preloaded into appropriate, major-specific courses prior to them meeting with advisors. As a reminder, The Report Center<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa...> offers a number of dashboards and reports to evaluate course scheduling for Fall 2021. Course Availability (Registration Cycle Tab) Use this report to track the fill rate of courses during the registration cycle. The report is updated four times daily and has slicers to pull courses with limited seat availability. Course Capacity and Enrollment (Courses Tab) Use this dashboard to look at courses in past semesters to help plan what courses could be offered in future semesters. It shows the fill rate by course, as well as courses that are consistently full for the past three academic years. Teaching Assignments (Courses Tab) Department Chairs can use this report to review faculty assignments for the long semesters. The report is updated as Banner is updated. Course Scheduling (Courses Tab) Use this report to facilitate the timing of courses within the department, as well as across departments. For instance, if there is a course offered in another department, the course can be selected to see what time(s) it is offered to work with the other department chair on scheduling. Small Classes (Courses Tab) This report shows all small classes at UTSA. Small classes are defined as undergraduate course sections with fewer than 10 students enrolled and graduate course sections with fewer than 5 students enrolled. Course Demand and Residual Waitlist Report (Courses Tab) This report shows the history of enrollment by course as well as the residual waitlist for all courses to show the full course demand. There are two tabs, the first tab shows individual courses and the second tab shows all courses by College and Department. Updated daily. Per all active undergraduate catalogs, the following courses cannot apply toward the 9 hours of upper-division Biology electives for the Biology minor: labs, independent studies, research courses, and seminars (e.g. BIO 4981). Students can petition to have these courses count, however, and petitions should be sent to Dr. Hans Heidner in the Biology Department: hans.heidner(a)utsa.edu<mailto:hans.heidner@utsa.edu>. In addition to these courses, the only Honors seminar that can count toward the upper-division Biology electives is HON 3253, but only the "Intro to Clinical Medicine and Pathology" topic because it's cross listed with BIO 3013 (Intro to Clinical Medicine and Pathology). Unfortunately, DegreeWorks is not programmed correctly, and it pull in upper-division labs and all sections of HON 3253. DegreeWorks and Jimmy have been working on this matter for a couple months now and have had to elevate to the issue to Ellucian. I'm not sure when the updates will be reflected in DegreeWorks. For the time being, please make sure to "remove" any labs or sections of HON 3253 that are not "Intro to Clinical Medicine and Pathology" when working with your students with a declared BIO minor.
