[A person standing in front of a building Description automatically generated]Student Highlight: Meet Forough Askarirad, Psychology (Class of 2022)
Forough Askarirad is a Terry Scholar<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fterrysc...> majoring in Psychology. Forough is a student leader on the UTSA campus and founded an annual event, Mental Health Day at UTSA. Aspiring to pursue a law degree and work as an immigration attorney, Forough works in the community as an intern for Congressman Lloyd Doggett, has served as an ESL instructor through a partnership between the Honors College and Woodland Baptist Church, and has volunteered at the San Antonio Center for Refugee Services. This past year, Forough won a Gilman Scholarship<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhonors....> worth $5000 to study abroad in Italy on the UTSA Urbino program. These experiences outside of the classroom and across communities from San Antonio to Urbino count toward Forough's Honors curricular requirements<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhonors....>.
Additional opportunities for all students: UTSA Citymester
The UTSA Citymester program<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhonors....> is housed in the Honors College, and is open to all students. The program is a full semester or summer term of coursework that is embedded in our city: professional development with an internship placement, service learning with a non-profit organization, and a seminar about civic life in San Antonio. The program will be accepting applications for the Summer through January 29. Early applications receive priority. Check out the Citymester website for more info. Questions: contact Ms. Elisa Perkins Cuellar (elisa.perkins(a)utsa.edu<mailto:elisa.perkins@utsa.edu>).
If at any time you have questions or thoughts, please reach out to us. We appreciate the insight and experience that Advising brings to the Honors College student experience.

Dear Advising community,
The UTSA Honors College Experiential Learning Fair (the "ELF") has gone virtual, and we'd be honored to have advisors serve as judges. The judging is asynchronous, on your own time, over a week period, and it should take no longer than 1.5 hours. Additional details are at the end of the email.
If you could, please RSVP yes or no by Friday, October 30, by clicking here<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=-40iOkfGy0SINXsgYX_JB...>.
Please share this invitation with other UTSA staff and faculty that might be interested. And if I can answer any questions, do not hesitate to be in touch.
Thank you for the consideration,
And as we say around Honors these days, let's ELF it!
Jill Fleuriet
FALL 2020 ELF PROCESS DETAILS
What is the ELF?
Each semester, community members and UTSA staff, faculty and graduate students serve as judges for our Experiential Learning Fair<https://honors.utsa.edu/students/programs/elf> (ELF). In the "ELF," UTSA Honors College students present significant accomplishments outside of the classroom in Service, Professional Development, Intellectual Achievement & Research, Cultural Exploration, Engaged Living, Skill Development, and Leadership. The ELF is their "final exam" to ensure that activities meet our Honors learning outcomes and ethos. We intentionally invite community members and UTSA partners to judge to make explicit our belief that education is a civic good. Student efforts in our curriculum should benefit our communities.
Virtual Judging Process. The judging process will be relatively simple:
* I will send a link to each student's project and a link to the grading rubric.
* With the project link, judges examine the poster while listening to audio content
* With the rubric link, judges enter student name, ID, grades, and comments.
Timing and Time Commitment:
* Judging will take place asynchronously (at your convenience) Monday, November 9 - Friday, November 13.
* Time commitment is approximately 15 minutes per student project.
Interested and available? Thank you! Please RSVP here<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=-40iOkfGy0SINXsgYX_JB...>.
