Student Highlight: Meet Arlae Gamez Luna, Political Science (Class of 2021) [cid:image002.png@01D69597.850FE4E0]Arlae Gamez Luna is a Terry Scholar<https://terryscholars.utsa.edu/>, transferring to UTSA after receiving her Associate's Degree with Distinction from San Antonio College. While at UTSA, Arlae has published in UTSA's Journal of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Works, joined the McNair Scholars<https://provost.utsa.edu/undergraduate-research/mcnair.html> program, and became a Mellon Humanities Pathways Fellow.<https://mxcenter.utsa.edu/mellon_pathway/> This past year, Arlae won a Gilman Scholarship<https://honors.utsa.edu/resources/pdf/onca/gilman.pdf> worth $5000 to study abroad in Germany, which she used to attend a virtual program to take classes on migration in the context of European law. Arlae is planning this fall to apply to PhD programs in International Comparative Education to research educational policies to assist unaccompanied minors. Additional Opportunities for All Students: The Truman Scholarship<https://www.truman.gov/candidates/how-become-truman-scholar> Nominate a student for the Truman Scholarship! Do you know a student who is a leader on campus or in their community? Are they looking to pursue a career in public service, broadly defined as a career in government, education, or the non-profit sector? The Truman Scholarship identifies future leaders who are at the junior level (in their third year at UTSA, regardless of transfer history and credit standing), and provides awards of $30,000 toward graduate school tuition. UTSA is allowed to nominate up to 4 students plus 3 additional transfer students. If you would like to nominate a student, please email andrew.chapman2(a)utsa.edu<mailto:andrew.chapman2@utsa.edu> the name of the student, UTSA ID, and a sentence about how they have demonstrated leadership. Nominees will typically have a 3.7 and higher GPA and extensive involvement in their community. Each year, up to 75 students nationwide receive the distinction of being named a "change maker" by the Truman Scholarship Foundation. DegreeWorks Upgrade complete

As a reminder please make sure all appointments from Monday September 14, 2020 – September 25, 2020, are entered into Degree Works no later than Oct. 9, 2020 by 5 p.m. In the upgrade there is one significant modification for our Advising Community, the Process New button. * Any changes made to DW, will require the advisor to “process new”. Early Intervention Minor will be discontinued

Dear All, The ILT department wanted to remind all advisors that the Early Intervention Minor will be discontinued. The lead faculty for the BCaBA (SPE) courses (SPE 3303 & SPE 4683) has left UTSA and the ILT department has no plans to replace this position. This affects students who were planning to pursue the BCaBA certification in combination with the Early Intervention (EIN) minor. Students who have already declared the minor can complete it. However, they are no longer eligible for the BCaBA test. The EIN minor will be discontinued. The 20-22 catalog no longer lists the minor as an option. Moving forward no student regardless of catalog can declare the EIN minor anymore. According to the registrar's office the EIN code in BANNER cannot be disabled at this point.
