We want your department/team to help promote wellbeing on campus, and we will help fund your ideas. The President’s Initiative on Enriching Campus Wellbeing is offering staff and faculty groups funding to promote wellbeing among their teams and peers. Up to 5 departments/teams will be awarded a $1500 mini-grant to help increase their groups’ awareness, knowledge, skills and behaviors around wellbeing. HONORS COLLEGE COMMUNIQUE: January 2021 Hello from the Honors College! In partnership with Academic Advising, we are sending a monthly Honors College Communique on the Advising listserv, in which we will send short updates about: 1. Honors opportunities open to all students 2. A student highlight from your advising areas 3. Additional opportunities for students you may want to pass along 4. Contacts within Honors for more information Honors Opportunities for All Students: Citymester - Summer 2021 UTSA's Citymester program is an exciting 9 SCH combination of internship, service learning, and coursework on San Antonio's civic landscape. In Summer 2021, up to 30 students will be virtually immersed in our vibrant city with scholarships up to $3,000. Details are attached and you can read a 2019 Sombrilla story on Citymester here<https://www.utsa.edu/sombrilla/fall2019/story/feature-citymester.html>. Note, while the Honors College manages the Citymester program, students do not need to be Honors students to participate. Students only need to be current degree-seeking UTSA undergraduates with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The most common question is, will the Citymester courses count toward my degree? It depends on the degree, but often, the internship course can all under the major's internship course (if present) and the service learning course and San Antonio seminar can count toward free electives in certain majors. Student Highlight: Meet Samuel Mosquera Florez, College of Engineering Samuel is a Biology major in the NIH/Federally-funded UTSA ESTEEMED (Enhancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Educational Diversity) Program. He does research involving dental stem cells for regenerative Endodontics, and in the future his goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Samuel is one of 16 UTSA students who were named United Nations Association Millennium Fellows in Spring of 2020 (more details on this opportunity below). Samuel proposed a service project called the East Flower Garden Coral Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving endemic coral species of Texas either in their natural habitat, marine exhibits, or in the commercial setting. His goal is to partner with local reef stores, universities, and aquariums to develop at least 15 land-based nurseries to care for coral until it is safe to return them to their natural habitats. While in-person work has been impacted by the pandemic, Samuel is partnering with a non-profit, Hydrous, to introduce virtual reality reef dives and 3D models of coral to K-12 classrooms in San Antonio to promote conservation. [cid:image002.jpg@01D6F58C.EC352220] Additional Opportunities for All Students: Millennium Fellowship The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program, in which students develop service projects that address United Nations sustainability goals. Students from all UTSA colleges, from freshman to junior year, can apply each spring for the fellowship. While there is no monetary award from the fellowship, students engage in a curriculum that helps them develop their projects as well as gain the exposure of a robust, worldwide networked community of fellows. I am currently reading the Bridgerton series (Thanks Netflix) as well as a book gifted to me for Christmas called Ex Libris. You can probably catch me reading, crafting on my Cricut, baking chocolate chip cookies (a household favorite), making a bookstagram post on my librarian instagram account, or playing and reading with Erickson on any given day. Change of Curriculum process reminder

Dear All, This is a reminder of our current change of curriculum process: If a student requests to change their major by contacting their current advisor or during their advising appointment, the Academic Advisor needs to send an e-mail to the Academic Advising Unit's e-mail account where the student's intended major is housed. Math classes switched for students without prior notification

The department determined that in order to help reduce class sizes in the precalculus courses, something of demonstrable benefit to students, that we would split some of the current sections - creating a new section at the same time - and separate the students. The students should have been contacted by their instructors, though with the last minute rush, that might not have happened. If a student has an issue with the problem, he or she can contact the Dept. Chair - Dr. Gutierrez. I expect that you will get some other complaints, but students should realize that while they can try to choose the instructor they want, the department is responsible for delivering a course, not an instructor. It is not uncommon to have instructor switches at the last moment as we try to cover sections. I've cc'd Dr. Gutierrez and also Patti in case she'd like to pass on this information to other advisers . Hello Mrs. Riverra, I had a question about my Precalculus class involving the UTSA registrar. I signed up for 1093.008 with professor David Fies with T/Th 1-2:15. However, without my permission, I was switched into a different class, 1093.014 with Dr. Gbenga Aniodun. I am pretty upset about this given that Mr. Fies had excellent ratings with a 4.7/5 and Dr. Abiodun has a very bad rating of 1.9/5 on RateMyProfessor. I am in his live lecture right now and I'm a little overwhelmed given that it seems like English isn't really his first language, he is stumbling over his words a lot and I just feel like I won't learn in this class. I'm just mainly upset that I was switched to a different class, not only without my permission, but I wasn't even given any sort of notification. I'm not the only student this happened to and I would really like a reason as to why this happened, and if I can I would like to be switched into the class that I signed up for and I am paying for.
