These are the classes we'll be offering next semester: MAS 2013 Intro to Chicanx Studies MAS 2023 Latinx Cultural Expressions MAS 3003 Chicanx Music MAS 3033 Mexican Americans in the Southwest MAS 3123 Mexican American Culture MAS 4013 Latinx Organizing, Activism and Leadership MAS 4953 Global Blackness and Afro-Latinidad (cross-listed with AAS) REGSS 2003 Teaching to Power We're hoping our new course MAS 4013 "Si Se Puede!: Latino Activism, Leadership, and Organizing" makes this semester (we had to cancel the class last spring because of low enrollment). We also have a few seats open for the MAS 4953 course which will focus on Global Blackness and Afro-Latinidad. Hello All, Happy Tuesday I hope everyone's day is going well. We have some great things happening over here at UTSA Online programs. This includes changes and addition to staff! To keep everyone abreast of what's taking place I want to share the items below. Lauren Smith has been working with UTSA Online for nearly 4 years and has been an inaugural part of growing our team and enrollment/retention. Since our enrollment has grown we have seen the need to make changes to ensure our continued growth and a more intentional focus on our online advising staff and strategy. As part of this, Lauren's title has been updated to Manager, Online Advising and we are excited to see her focus on Advising and the great things that will take place in this area. Kelly Peña Lint has also been working with UTSA Online programs for nearly 4 years too and I would like to welcome and congratulate her on her new role as the Interim Manager, Online Enrollment. Kelly has been a great part of developing our Enrollment counselors by coaching and training them as the Quality Assurance Coordinator and because of her exceptional ability to see the process and understanding of enrollment, we have decided to offer her this opportunity in this interim role and we look forward to seeing the developments that she has planned for the Enrollment team. Please note that anything related to advising may now go to Lauren Smith and anything Enrollment related may now be directed to Kelly Peña Lint. More exciting news is that we have two new members in two newly created roles. Please welcome Desiree Perez and Pierre Richard. They both started in March as our Enrollment Support Specialists and have been doing a great job at assisting our Enrollment Counselors in converting inquiries to applicants. Lastly, we have Amy Gomez who begins in May as an Academic Advisor III, she brings with her many experiences in advising and we are looking forward to the knowledge she will be sharing and adding to our Advising team. Please share in congratulating those who have recently joined our team and those that have new roles! This fellowship program is open to students in all disciplines with a focus on education science. The program is looking for undergraduate students interested in Education Sciences research, with 60 to 90 credit hours, and with a 3.0 and above GPA. Dear Advisor, Global Initiatives, Modern Languages and the Honors College have partnered to host an NEH-funded, immersive summer day-school to help your students improve their Spanish, Japanese and Korean. The San Antonio Language Academy (SALA) offers instruction in three languages beginning in Mid-may. We repeat a Spanish-only session in June. What makes SALA unique? Besides improving a language in 90 hours of instruction over 3 weeks, our program participants will: * learn music, art, and dance by San Antonian and world-renowned artists, * rediscover our multicultural city through a global lens, * cook and taste international food without leaving home! We will offer your students the special early bird rate of $350 per three-week term to join the SALA Spanish, Korean, or Japanese immersion program. Also, we are offering a special rate of $500 for UTSA alumni, staff, and faculty.
