Re: Post-bacc Residency Degree Works Update

Hello All, Just a reminder that we currently have to use a Force Complete exception on at least 1 of the new post-bacc residency requirements. We added these rules this spring as a temporary solution to make sure the post-bacc residency requirements are tracked during graduation audits. Long-term, we plan to move the 12 upper-level major hours requirement to each major block instead, but we also need additional student data to be bridged to Degree Works before we can fully automate the calculations. To prevent these students from showing 100% complete if they haven't met the requirements for another degree, we have added 2 rules in the Degree block for any students with a post-baccalaureate (PB) classification. These rules have been added to the 2020-2022 and newer catalogs. Screenshots of the rules can be seen at the end of this email. The wording used is a lightly edited version of the catalog policy. * The first rule is to confirm if 30 "new" hours have been taken toward the subsequent degree * The second rule is to confirm if 12 "new" upper-level hours have been taken toward the major for the subsequent degree Please note there are 2 versions of the 30-hour rule that may appear (but only 1 should appear for each student). The first version automatically tracks the 30 "new" hours if the student was admitted to UTSA as a post-bacc admit (see the example below from SGASTDN for @01597805). The calculation will begin counting the 30 hours starting with the student's PB admission term (e.g., starting with Summer 2023 for the student below). [cid:image001.jpg@01DAAA9D.25500700] The second version of the 30-hour rule is for students that were NOT admitted as a post-bacc admit. These students completed one degree at UTSA and began a subsequent degree within 3 semesters (did not have to reapply). This version of the rule does NOT automatically track the number of hours completed toward the new degree. Advisors would instead need to inform students of when their 30 "new" hours begin. This information could be added in a note on the worksheet (see below). [cid:image002.jpg@01DAAA9D.25500700] The second rule that will appear for all students states 12 new hours of upper-level coursework must be completed in the major. This rule does not automatically track the number of hours completed for any students, regardless of their admit type. In the future, we will likely add this rule to every major block instead of placing it in the Degree block. For any of the rules that are not automatically tracked, advisors will need to "Force Complete" the requirement once the student has completed the required hours. We are working on long-term plans to automate tracking for all students pursuing another degree at UTSA, but we wanted to add these rules now to address the issue of these students appearing 100% complete when they haven't met the requirements for another degree. As always, please let us know if you come across any issues with these requirements! Participating in Citymester will count as three experiences for the Honors College. However, you do not have to be a part of the Honors College to participate. With Citymester, the city is your classroom. Eligibility - The Citymester Program is available to undergraduate students of all majors and areas of study, and we welcome a diverse array of student interests and backgrounds. Students do not need to be members of the Honors College to be a part of the Citymester Program. All UTSA students can apply! No prior internship experience is required!
