Subject: ENG curriculum change: minor in professional writing is now 18 hours *and* STS
course added to SBS
Dear Jackie
In response to feedback from advisors, I have worked with the rhet/comp faculty and have
made the following change: from 21 to 18 hours for the Minor in Professional Writing.
Below is a screen shot of the courseleaf editing and this change will be effective 2018
(having gone through the approval chain).
In addition, we have added a new course in the core under the Social and Behavioral
Science component. It is "ENG 2033: Science, Technology, and Society." Here is
the catalog course description.
The interdisciplinary study of how social, political, and cultural practices shape
scientific research and technological innovation, with emphasis on knowledge construction,
production and analysis of scientific texts, controversies, expertise, public
understanding of science, and the political economy of STEM knowledge. The course fulfills
all required learning objectives for the Social and Behavioral Sciences component of the
core curriculum. Generally offered: Fall, Spring.
I hope you will share these changes with your students, which will also impact the
Undergrad Certificate in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, which is designed for major
outside of English.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I will also be glad to meet with you at
your convenience.
Thank you!! Best, sue
