Subject: Inequity Leadership Communication
Dear Colleagues,
We are definitely in challenging times as our country is experiencing global tragedies as
a result of the pandemic and the most recent death of George Floyd. These events have shed
a light on the many inequities facing our nation. As an institution of higher learning,
this is our opportunity to stay steadfast in our Inclusive Excellence journey and progress
toward our goal to advance student success. This is our time to display what it means to
be Roadrunner Strong.
I want to introduce two micro-sites designed to share information and transfer knowledge
related to these challenging times. The Diversity in
COVID-19<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%...
micro-site provides inclusivity insights and strategies as we engage communities more
virtually. The Impacting Racial
Injustices<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3...
micro-site is a living site that will provide updates and additional resources as we seek
to learn more about racial injustice.
What can you do right now?
1. Review the Diversity in COVID
-19<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa.edu%2Finclusiveexcellence%2Fcovid-19%2Findex.html&data=02%7C01%7CBrandy.Barksdale%40utsa.edu%7C29925c184b174b01c36a08d812e06ff2%7C3a228dfbc64744cb88357b20617fc906%7C0%7C0%7C637280102457806718&sdata=6W5aa3DBLWKj0%2BYxf3yl35b%2FTMcU9itd%2Fx14w%2BZPzZ0%3D&reserved=0>
micro-site. This site provides inclusivity reminders to further place an equity lens on
issues and situations as they relate to COVID-19.
2. Review the "How we can learn
more<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2...
link on the Impacting Racial Injustices micro-site. Knowledge is power and this link
provides fundamental information about racial injustice. Please take a moment to review
the Understanding Race Video
Wall<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2...
link designed to be a just-in-time space to acquire micro-bursts of knowledge about race.
Please revisit these links for future updates.
3. Host a Community
Gathering<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A...
for your area. A community gathering provides a space for students, staff and faculty to
process and heal. The Office of Inclusive Excellence and Multicultural Student Center for
Equity and Justice can assist in providing the format and resources needed to host your
gathering. Please contact Assistant Vice President for Inclusive Excellence Dr. Traci
Buckley at traci.guinnbuckley@utsa.edu<mailto:traci.guinnbuckley@utsa.edu> for more
information.
I encourage you to share this information with your colleagues and others within your
sphere of influence to increase our overall knowledge base on these critical topics. I
believe, knowledge promotes awareness, awareness invites strategy, and strategy ignites
change.
Take care and stay safe,
Myron
