Hello All,
Please see the attached blanket sub stating that students pursuing the African American
Studies minor only need 6 hours of upper-level coursework total.
The catalog has always listed 12 hours as required, but students under prior catalogs
might end up satisfying all course requirements without taking 12 upper-level hours. For
instance, the student below only needs 3 hours of minor electives, but they are lacking 6
hours of upper-level credit because they selected MUS 2663 as one of their minor
electives. This issue is even more troublesome for students under the 20-22 catalog
because 9 of the 18 hours required for the minor are lower-level courses.

To address this issue, the department has agreed to lower the requirement to 6 hours for
all active catalogs. The requirements have already been updated in Degree Works, so you
should now see that only 6 UD hours are required (see the updated Degree Works below for
the same student example mentioned above).
