Good morning,
As you gear up for the 2nd day of orientation advising appointment for program 1 we wanted
to share a few reminders and some things we learned yesterday while assisting students in
the lab.
? Please set prerequisite overrides if the course(s) you are recommending have
prerequisites and the student has shown you proof that they completed the prerequisite and
the courses are not in Banner. It is frustrating, confusing, and time consuming for the
student when they try to register for the courses you recommended for the fall and they
receive the prerequisite error message.
? Students should have 7 recommend courses (21 hours) to choose from as some of the
courses may be full by the time the student tries to register. The courses for the block
schedule that you registered them for would count toward the 7 recommended courses.
? Remember to explain the block schedule to the students a little more. There were quite
a few coming to the lab with some questions or thinking they had to register for the
courses, not realizing you had registered them.
? BIO 1404
* BIO 1404 has limited sections available for non-biology students.
* We were informed yesterday that the Biology department and the department chairs
for Kinesiology, Medical Humanities, Public Health and Biomedical Engineering met
regarding BIO 1404. It was communicated to us that department chairs agreed that students
in one of the majors, other than Biology, could delay taking BIO 1404 until the spring
semester. For now if the student is not a Biology major please don't recommend BIO
1404 for the fall semester.
* For CAP students, do not list BIO 1404 as an option unless the student has opted
out of CAP and is changing their major to BIO, PBI or PMI.
The students seemed well prepared when they come to the lab and every student I asked knew
their advisor's name and shared that they liked meeting with her/him.
We appreciate all you are doing to support and guide the students as they make that
transition to college.
Have a good day,
Barbara
