Contacts within Honors for more information Honors News: New Program Alert! The Honors Strategist Program is open to ALL UNDERGRADUATE UTSA students. Honors Strategist Program - Come apply what you know and learn even more in this paid, applied research opportunity through the Honors College, ACOB, and the Najim Center. Over 8 weeks, you will delve into what it means to have safe housing for multifamily (often apartment) communities, and you will work in teams to come up with a solution to one of its most pressing problems. Honors Academics: Honors Courses - here's some helpful information regarding the required Honors courses. Questions? This is an 8-week, online, asynchronous course. It's the student's introduction to Honors and the Honors curriculum. Students have the opportunity to explore options for experiences and chart their path in Honors. HON 2301 - can be taken any time it best fits the schedule. This is an 8-week, online, asynchronous course. It's a course that covers civic engagement, along with the ethos & philosophy of doing volunteer work. *Note, new option for Fall 2024! We are allowing students to take HIS 4603 Migration, Democracy, and the American Experience and PAD 2073 Foundations of Civic Engagement. CSH 1213 (Honors)- can be taken any time it best fits the schedule. This course counts in the core curriculum and is offered in the fall and spring semesters. This course is a global/cultural course, and topics vary each semester. *Note, new option the Fall 2024! First and second year students can take special sections of CHN 1014 and RUS 1014. WRC 1023 (Honors) - students only need to take the Honors section if they have not come in with the course completed upon entering Honors. AIS - Honors students are not required* to take an Honors AIS, but can do so if they want to. Honors AIS courses count towards the core requirement and as their first experience in Honors! *Note, students in COS Honors, APPEX, and ESTEEMED are required to take a special section of Honors AIS. This summer, the Honors College will travel to Rancho Margot<https://www.ranchomargot.com/>;, where students spend one week at an off-the-grid farm learning about ecology, sustainability, and mindfulness. This trip is tied to a fall Honors course, where students put into practice the activities they engaged in, in Costa Rica with San Antonio community entities (such as local community gardens, learning about watershed processes at Confluence Park, and much more!). This program is open to any major and includes spaces for our first-year students who are just starting their time at UTSA. Program Highlight: Citymester The UTSA Citymester Program is a student engagement initiative developed by the Honors College. Through Citymester, UTSA and community partners work together to educate our future leaders using internships, service-learning projects, and networking opportunities. The program provides selected students a summer of engaged learning outside the classroom. Students will work with non-profits, businesses, and other agencies in San Antonio to gain valuable career skills to supplement their UTSA education. This program is open to ALL UTSA students.
