Honors News:
Honors has been busy since March, onboarding our new first-time freshmen. To date, Honors
has advised 300+ new freshmen, through special VIP tours & sessions, virtual meetings,
and in-person sessions. We have met many wonderful students who are eager & excited to
start their journey at UTSA!
An Honors College student was one of three UTSA students to receive a Fulbright Award to
travel in 2023! Forough Askarirad, was selected to travel to Bulgaria to participate in
the English Teaching Assistant Program. Read article

Honors Opportunities for All UTSA Students:
Did you know non-Honors students can take Honors courses? It's simple! Non-Honors
students with 3.3 GPAs or higher are eligible; they fill out this

for each course. We enroll them and then confirm via email. Below are some of the super

CE 4953.002: Collaborative Web Mapping for Social and Environmental Issues. Students
develop a collaborative online mapping website for an issue they select. (TR 4:00-5:15pm;
in person)
ENG 3153.001: Orature: Performing Literature Out Loud. Students will work with
professional actors to produce their own performances in a classic 1960's-style coffee
shop poetry reading. (TR 11:30-12:45pm; in person)
GEO 2113.002: Fundamental of GIS. Students learn spatial analysis to understand green
initiatives around watersheds, wildlife habitats and parks and develop a project around an
issue of their interests. (MW 1:00-2:15pm; in person)
HON 3223.901: Design & Sustainability. Students combine photography and architectural
design to investigating sustainability and the world of fast food. *Downtown course! (R
2:00-4:45pm; in person)
MAT 1053.11H: Math for Business. Students research student debt and college financial
services to provide feedback on UTSA services around financial wellbeing for students.
(MWF 11:00-11:30; in person)
PHY 4953.003: Fourier Trans using Mathematica. Students learn how to use Mathematica for
1-D and 2-D transformations used in optics and digital image processing. (TR 1:00-2:45pm;
in person)

Student Highlight: Charles Otte, Senior, major in Biomedical Engineering, with a minor in
Foreign Languages.
