Subject: Orientation TSI Process
Dainon-Here is a quick reminder of how students will be registered for their developmental
courses during orientation:
1) Once orientation registration closes (~11-12 days before the session), I will pull the
roster from ASAP and review/update their TSI status.
2) If the student is eligible to register for classes because they have a TSI
score/exemption in all areas, I will register them for their developmental course and
post-date their TSI hold until 9-11-19. I will send them an email and include the advisor
on record if assigned in SGAADVR, put a comment in SPACMNT and in Navigate.
3) If the student is not eligible to register due to a blank status (no scores or
exemptions), I will send them an email with information on filling out the TSI Retrieval
form and/or taking the PAA/testing at UTSA. If an advisor has been assigned in SGAADVR, I
will also include them in the email. I will put a comment in SPACMNT and Navigate.
4) For online transfer orientation students, I am taking them as I am being contacted
either by the student or the advisor. I think this is the best way because they can
complete the online orientation at any time and do not have a set date. If time allows, I
will try and see if they are on the roster and compare it to the orientation hold for
completion in SOATEST. This is what I am doing now and working with them if they have in
progress work so that I can post-date their holds/register for developmental course
depending on grade (as I am doing for our current students).
5) For freshmen online orientation students, since registration opens up on July 14th for
them, I should be able to review/update status since the bulk of in person orientation
will be coming to an end.
6) Elizabeth and I will either both be at check-in or alternating to receive official
documents and to help the students fill out the TSI retrieval form through their ASAP
portal. Once we return to the office, their scores will be retrieved. Also, please keep
in mind that students who test during orientation will not have their scores in SOATEST
until all the students have finished testing in their testing session. Once Testing
Services runs the scores, they will notify me and then I can adjust/update
records/schedules.
I plan on having walk-ins all day to accommodate students during orientation. However, if
I am needing more admin time to register the students I will let you all know what the
office hours will be.
As always, I welcome any feedback to make this process smoother for the students. Please
pass this on to all the advisors. Thanks again!
