Dear All,
Last week's events at UTSA has been traumatic for many of us. Colleagues and friends
with whom we might have worked for years lost their job. As we deal with this new
situation, I want to remind you to keep compassion at heart. Compassion for all your
colleagues, who are struggling to adjust to the new situation. Compassion for students,
who might experience similar events in their lives. And compassion for yourself, to get
through these trying times.
I invite you to below 'compassion meditation' and hope you will find some peace:
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply to begin
Put both hands over your heart.
Bring your awareness to the warmth of your hands and the beat of your heart
Speak the following words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May I be kind to myself in this moment
May I give myself the compassion I need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply
Now bring a person or persons to mind who might go through a rough time.
Speak the words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May you receive kindness in this moment
May you receive the compassion you need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply
Finally, offer compassion to yourself one more time
Speak the words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May I be kind to myself in this moment
May I give myself the compassion I need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply to end
Have a good week and take good care of yourself - Sylvia
