Good Afternoon, Just wanted to forward this information to those who deal with students who are pursuing teacher certification with their degrees. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The UTSA Teacher Certification Advisory Committee, which is the governing entity over the UTSA Teacher Certification Program, met in Nov. 2014 and made the following changes to the program. 1. Effective March 1, 2015- the teacher certification program will continue to require the THEA, Accuplacer, SAT or ACT to gauge teacher candidates skills in reading, writing and math. The program will be removing the Compass and Asset options. Students can still take the Accuplacer and THEA at UTSA as well as at select universities in the surrounding San Antonio area. 2. Effective Immediately - Texas Education Agency has voted to NOT raise the gpa requirement to 2.75. The gpa will remain a 2.5. If you meet with any of your students please pass this info along, we are also planning to send an email out to all teacher cert students about these updates.
