Honors News:
Honors now has two VPAA Faculty Fellows working with us in for the Spring and Summer: Gina
Amatangelo<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3...
and Hector
Aguilar<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2...;.
Both are award-winning educators and Honors friends and collaborators.
Hector will serve as the Faculty Fellow of Academic Affairs in Honors. Essentially,
he'll be doing the Associate Dean responsibilities. Gina will serve as the Faculty
Fellow in Civic Engagement in Honors. Gina will build out an Honors community partner
database with existing and new partners for our Special Programs, collaborate with our
team to develop a plan to become more visible in more city spaces, and work with Kristi
Meyer to develop a Civic Scholars program.
Honors Opportunities for All UTSA Students:
The UTSA
Citymester<https://honors.utsa.edu/programs/utsa-citymester/> Program is a
student engagement initiative developed by the Honors College. Through Citymester, UTSA
and community partners work together to educate our future leaders using internships,
service-learning projects, and networking opportunities. The program provides selected
students a semester or summer of engaged learning outside the classroom. Students will
work with non-profits, businesses, and other agencies in San Antonio to gain valuable
career skills to supplement their UTSA education.
There are three components to the Citymester Program: Cityskills, Citysolutions, and
Citysites
* Cityskills the internship component. City Skills: (3 hours) Cityskills is the
Internship component of Citymester. Placements are based on student career interests and
matchmaking with current partners. Through the internships, students and community
partners work together to strengthen our local businesses and institutions
* Citysolutions the service project. City Solutions: (3 hours) City Solutions is
the Service Learning component of Citymester. This is an opportunity for students to work
with civic or non-profit partners to identify and develop solutions to improve our
community. Students will have an active role in serving the community and developing city
solutions.
* Citysites the seminar. City Sites: (3 hours) The community becomes the classroom
in this upper-division, interdisciplinary seminar. San Antonio's key institutions and
landmarks host students for classes and unique opportunities to connect with city leaders
in government, industry, and philanthropy
With Citymester, the city is your classroom. See our video on the
website<https://honors.utsa.edu/programs/utsa-citymester/>! An information session
will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in the GSR 1.204F. Open to all
majors. The deadline to apply is January 26th, by 11:59pm. Apply
here<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2...;!

Highlighted Benefit for Honors College Members:
Honors Events: Honors College members have access to a number of events including
professional development workshops, chats with recent alumni, and social activities. There
are occasionally events open to the all UTSA students such as lectures by invited guests
and scholarship workshops. These regular events offer our Honors students frequent
opportunities for development while providing an avenue for Honors students to network and
build a community with our faculty & staff, and among each other.
Student Highlight: Naomi Edwards, Senior, major in Business management with a
concentration in human resources in the College of Business.
