Julie Fisher began her higher education career as a work-study student at UTSA in the
Colleges' Freshman Advising Center and Learning Communities in 2004 and transitioned
to a full-time position in Learning Communities (now First-Year Experience) in 2006. She
organized out-of-class programming, led a thriving peer mentor program, and created a
successful freshman common reading experience. She joined the Colleges' Freshman
Advising Center as an academic advisor in 2011 and specialized in assisting students from
the College of Engineering and College of Sciences. Julie transitioned to the Arts &
Humanities Advising Center in 2014 and found a soft spot for those students boldly
pursuing the fine arts in the 21st century. She continues to find academic advising and
supporting student success a rewarding career.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from UTSA and a Master of
Education degree in Student Development and Leadership in Higher Education from Angelo
State University. She was awarded the UTSA Music Department's Distinguished Service
Award in 2020, UTSA's Most Valuable Advisor and a TEXAAN Scholarship in 2019, and
UTSA's Academic Advising Innovation Award as a contributing member to the Arts &
Humanities Freshman Program in 2017. Julie enjoys learning about student development
theory, working with freshmen, and an excellent cup of coffee.
