Good morning Advising Team,
I want to congratulate you on the completion of the first Freshman Orientation. I
received some good feedback on Tuesday and Wednesday. When I spoke with one student and
his parents from Houston, they raved about the entire experience and how much their son
enjoyed working with his academic advisor and felt he had a clear path. Another student
indicated that she wished she had worked on building a schedule so she could have spent
more time discussing the major with her advisor and less on trying to build a schedule.
We currently have received survey responses back from 12-15% of the students depending on
their track. However, they have a week to respond and we anticipate more surveys to be
received.
Below are a few of the comments received in response to the question; "The most
important thing I learned in my one-on-one advising session was:"
That there's someone willing to help me along the way.
How important it is to focus on my classes and not put too much on
my plate because I will not be able to do absolutely everything in one semester.
That some of my classes could "double dip" so that I was
not taking unnecessary classes.
Learning how to access degree works.
There are required core courses I need to take in freshmen year.
How to prepare for the upcoming semester.
Each semester you get new classes, so that's why it is important
to not mess up.
Not to overload yourself with too many classes that you can't
handle.
How to set up my schedule for my degree though out my entire four
years.
That she was there for me and it was easy to contact her.
To make sure I was taking the right classes for my major and get my
dual credit hours in asap.
Which classes I need to complete my major.
She helped me receive the maximum credits for classes I had already
taken, to minimize what I need for my degree, and talked to me about opportunities
available for my interests. I didn't know all the options I had.
When I would be able to graduate with all my credits from AP scores,
I enjoyed talking to my advisor.
That UTSA has a lot of opportunities and benefits.
Which Credits are necessary and how to keep up to date with my
progress using ASAP.
I learned that I have to really be committed to my classes and make
high grades in order to be successful in college.
That it is important to have a degree plan.
Speak up if you're confused or want clarification. They're
there to help.
To always talk to my advisor and make an appointment.
They are there for me. I shouldn't refrain from going to them
because I wouldn't want to bother them.
Great job! Keep up the good work.
Have a good weekend,
Barbara
