Good Morning,
The REGS department is sharing attached flyers to promote these new MAS classes.
These are great upper division electives. There is currently a registration restriction,
'instructor consent required'. You can override the restriction. The department
& registrar's office are trying to fix this issue.
Please encourage your student to reach out to Dr. Saldana or Dr. Cruz if they have any
questions.
You all have a good Tuesday - Sylvia

Subject: Re: MAS Music Flyers
Hello Sylvia,
I'm so glad you and Rachel met. I'm very happy to share the flyers for our
upcoming MAS courses. We'd appreciate all the support we can get to make sure that our
MAS classes make for Fall 2021. These are the courses that have the lowest enrollment
(I've attached the flyers here):
MAS 4953 Latinx Songwriting
MAS 4953 Latinas/xs in Music and Society
MAS 4953 Mexican American and Indigenous Foodways
MAS 4953 Blackness in the Americas
MAS 2013 Intro to Chicano Studies
As you've probably seen in the class schedule, we don't have anyone enrolled in
the music courses that Dr. Cruz is scheduled to teach. I hope the instructor holds are
lifted so students can enroll ASAP. Also, as Dr. Cruz noted, students don't need to
have a formal background in music to enroll in her two courses. We're very excited
about these two MAS courses which will be included as electives in our degree plan,
pending approval.
I'll also be teaching a foodways class. This class might be of interest to students in
the College for Health, Community, and Policy, so if you know students in that college
that need an elective, please recommend this class. We'll be examining the
intersection of Latinx foodways, community wellbeing, and public health policy.
I'm also including a flyer for an African American Studies course cross-listed with
MAS -- Blackness in the Americas. We have five seats open for this course.
I'd also like to add that we still have plenty of seats open in our Intro to Chicano
Studies (MAS 2013). We're hoping that freshmen are able to register for this class and
fulfill their core curriculum requirements.
Thank you so much for all of your support in promoting our classes!
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Lilliana
