Following a national search, the College of Architecture, Construction and Planning is
pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tulio Sulbaran as the Department Chair for the
Department of Construction Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio, effective
August 1, 2017.
Dr. Sulbaran has many years of industry experience and he is very interested in increasing
industry involvement in the Department of Construction Science at the University of Texas
at San Antonio. Dr. Sulbaran also has a wealth of leadership/administrative experience
that will help increase the success of the students and faculty in the construction
science and management program. He is recognized for his passion for teaching as
demonstrated by the prestigious ABC John Trimmer Award for Excellence in Teaching that he
received. Dr. Sulbaran strongly believes in hands-on learning and student engagement,
service learning and extracurricular activities.
Dr. Sulbaran has long been active in construction education and industry. He served for
several years as a trustee of the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), the
accrediting board for construction education programs, and led the effort to establish the
very successful ACCE Industry Advisory Board Roundtable. The primary goal of ACCE is to
promote and improve construction education in colleges and universities. He is also the
editor for the Associated School of Construction (ASC) Conference Proceedings. The ASC is
the professional association of construction educators and industry practitioners working
together for the development and advancement of construction education. Dr. Sulbaran is a
strong advocate of industry and academic collaboration.
He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (CE) with a concentration in Construction
Management from Georgia Institute of Technology. The Georgia Tech CE program a is very
prestigious program, currently ranked as the second-best in the US according to the U.S
News & World Report.

leadership role.
