We had sent out an announcement about the Study Abroad event earlier today to our 154 SSS Students. We're excited about the opportunity you are providing them. Since Study Abroad is a significant tool in raising graduation rates and the amount of low income/first generation students/ and students with a disability (our population of students at SSS) are very underrepresented it is my goal to try to change that here at UTSA. Indeed, UTSA's international footprint is quickly growing with 526 students sent abroad in 2015-16, which is a 25% increase from 421 students in 2014-15. I have spent the last 17 years at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign so I am quite comfortable in a large, public, and complex institution. The majority of those years was directly focused on supporting academic advisors and improving how study abroad impacted their daily responsibilities.
