[Macke Monologues: Just Breathe]
Hello Everyone,
This Monday morning has been very busy for me and I seem to drown in my e-mails... If you had a very busy start of the week as well, I invite you to sit back and take a 'breather'.
You may want to follow below breathing exercise:
Take a deep breath to inhale and exhale deeply to begin.
Inhale for the count of four, exhale for the count of four
Continue this breathing pattern as many times as you want while you close your eyes and think of a nature spot you visited where you felt happy and relaxed; maybe a beach or a mountain, or your backyard....
Once you are ready to 'come back' take a deep breath to inhale and exhale deeply to end.
Get-up from your chair and 'shake out' your body or walk a few steps.
Have a good week.
And remember to listen to your body - Sylvia

[Take a break under this Texas waterfall for $20]
Dear All,
The Texas heat is on! Make sure to stay cool and hydrated. I invite you to take a moment to breathe to refocus. The following breathing exercise helps to cool down too:
Take a deep inhale through the nose and exhale deeply through the nose to begin.
Stick out your tongue and form a U-shape. No worries if you can't do a U-shape, just stick out your tongue. Breathe through your mouth and bring your awareness to your tongue.
Inhale through the mouth and exhale through the mouth
Inhale through the mouth and exhale through the mouth
Inhale through the mouth and exhale through the mouth
Take a deep inhale through the nose and exhale deeply through the nose to end.
Have a good week, stay cool and well - Sylvia

Good evening,
Updates on “D” restrictions.
There should not be any issues with major restrictions on courses with the “D” notations. UTS is working to remove them from ASAP, but has guaranteed it is not impacting registration.
Have a great weekend!!

Dear All,
Last week's events at UTSA has been traumatic for many of us. Colleagues and friends with whom we might have worked for years lost their job. As we deal with this new situation, I want to remind you to keep compassion at heart. Compassion for all your colleagues, who are struggling to adjust to the new situation. Compassion for students, who might experience similar events in their lives. And compassion for yourself, to get through these trying times.
I invite you to below 'compassion meditation' and hope you will find some peace:
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply to begin
Put both hands over your heart.
Bring your awareness to the warmth of your hands and the beat of your heart
Speak the following words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May I be kind to myself in this moment
May I give myself the compassion I need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply
Now bring a person or persons to mind who might go through a rough time.
Speak the words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May you receive kindness in this moment
May you receive the compassion you need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply
Finally, offer compassion to yourself one more time
Speak the words to yourself loud or silently:
This is a moment of suffering
Suffering is a part of life
May I be kind to myself in this moment
May I give myself the compassion I need
Take a deep breath in and exhale deeply to end
Have a good week and take good care of yourself - Sylvia
