Orientation Update | Freshmen E-mail Template #2 & Academic Advising Orientation Survey

As we get ready for the orientation session this week (June 10-13, 2019) there is an update from Academic Advising Leadership: § Freshman Orientation E-mail Template #2 o The template has been updated to include the Academic Advising Orientation Survey link. The orientation survey will be e-mailed to the student in their follow-up e-mail from their Academic Advisor. Freshmen students will no longer complete the survey about their academic advising experience in the registration computer lab. o The updated template is attached and has also been uploaded to the Microsoft Teams site (Orientation 2019). Reminders | Orientation 2019

Hi Everyone, Hope your day is going well. We assisted 775 new Roadrunners during the freshmen orientation sessions this week. I provided some notes/reminders from Academic Advising Leadership to prepare for the freshmen orientation sessions next week: § Releasing Advising Holds o Please make sure you end date to release the orientation advising hold in Banner (SOAHOLD) before the student leaves your office. § Course Recommendations for Fall 2019 o Please give students at least 24 semester credit hours of course recommendations. Students were getting to the registration computer lab with course recommendations however due to some classes filling they did not have enough course recommendations to have a full-time schedule. § AIS 1203 & UPM 1000 o List both AIS 1203 and UPM 1000 as part of the student's course recommendations for Fall 2019. Explain to the student they will register for one or the other. § Overrides o If a student needs to register for a course for Fall 2019 but does not have the prerequisite in the UTSA system they must provide you with documentation that shows they satisfied the prerequisite requirement. (Example: providing an unofficial transcript from another institution with the course and grade that satisfies the prerequisite requirement). o Before the student leaves your office, enter the override (Q1) in Banner (SFASRPO) for the student after you have received and validated their prerequisite documentation. o Upload all documentation provided by the student into Navigate. P2 override

We have always had many courses whose enrollment is limited to students who are in a particular field of study (major, minor, or concentration). Students who want to enroll in a class for which they don't have the correct field of study must have an M1 override placed in SFASRPO. With the advent of the X-majors, each of which encompasses several intended majors, we have had to go to program code restrictions rather than major restrictions for some classes. For example, several sections of BIO 1404 are restricted to BIO, MI, and BCH majors and intended majors (just the lab portions are restricted). In order to include those XLHS majors who intend to major in one of these areas, we have restricted these sections not by major but rather by program code (BS-BIO, BS-BIO-XST, etc.). If you need to override the program code restriction to enroll a student in one of these sections, you will need to use the P2 override rather than M1. Re: ALK4 scores

I've updated the prereqs for MAT 1073, 1093, 1193, and 1214, which should be the only classes affected by the ALK4 test scores. Please let me know if you continue to have problems with students not able to register for the math class that they've tested into. Jimmy James R. Advisors, Happy Orientation season! This is your friendly reminder that ALL students are invited to participate in Music ensembles each semester. They do not need an override and may register for the courses via ASAP. Marching Band (MUS 3801) especially relies on non-Music majors each fall.
