Vice President for Business Affairs Open Forums
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Good morning everyone!
As Chair of the Staff Council, I am sitting on the search committee for the new Vice President for Business Affairs. The committee has narrowed our search to four final candidates.
We will be bringing these four candidates to campus in the coming weeks. The flyers attached to this e-mail detail time/dates/locations for Open Forums to meet and talk with the candidates.
I would encourage you all to attend these forums and get to know these candidates prior to the final selection.
This position is an important one to everyone employed at UTSA and we want all of you to have the opportunity to meet our final candidates.
Let me know if you have questions or concerns and I will attempt to answer them as I am able!
Thanks for your attention!
Shannon

Re: [Advising] Advisor Type in SGAADVR
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Jimmy:
When attempting to change the assigned advisors to the generic advisor I've ran into difficulties attempting to remove the current advisor. I was using the instructions you had given me the last time I hit a bump, but they just were not working. BANNER wasn't allowing me the option to click the button in the middle of the screen to end the current advisor. The other centers might be having similar issues.

In reviewing the latest Generic Advisor report that gets generated every week, I notice that there are still several instances where the assigned generic advisor doesn't match the Advisor Type. For example, a student might be assigned to Student Placement Advising but be assigned to the EGR or SOSC Advisor Type, or even no Advisor Type at all. There are a handful of instances of this in most advising centers. So a reminder: when assigning a student to a generic advisor in SGAADVR, please make sure to assign an Advisor Type that matches the generic advisor. Thanks!

Happy New Year everyone!! Social Hour is back and we're starting off 2015 at the same place we left 2014. That's right, we're headed right back to The Flying Saucer. Here's to 2015 UTSA Academic Advising Community!!
If you have suggestions about where our next outing should be please let me know.

Changes to Teacher Certification part 2
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Good Afternoon,
This is just an FYI. I will be sending out information to the BIOChemistry majors to see if there is interest.
______________________________________________________________________________
The UTSA Teacher Certification Advisory Committee, which is the governing entity over the UTSA Teacher Certification Program, met in Nov. 2014 and made the following changes to the program.
Effective Immediately - the teacher certification program will now be accepting the BS-Biochemistry as a teacher certification track. This track will allow a teacher candidate to get the 7-12 Science Composite certificate. Thirty hours of education courses will be required for the certification, but not for the degree. It will be treated the same as our BS-BIO degree program. Students will have a primary advisor in the Life and Health Sciences Center and a secondary advisor in the IDED Center (Kimberly Perez, Allegra Castro, Amanda Flores).
Thank you,
Kimberly Perez

Changes to the Teacher Certification
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Good Afternoon,
Just wanted to forward this information to those who deal with students who are pursuing teacher certification with their degrees.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The UTSA Teacher Certification Advisory Committee, which is the governing entity over the UTSA Teacher Certification Program, met in Nov. 2014 and made the following changes to the program.
1. Effective March 1, 2015- the teacher certification program will continue to require the THEA, Accuplacer, SAT or ACT to gauge teacher candidates skills in reading, writing and math. The program will be removing the Compass and Asset options. Students can still take the Accuplacer and THEA at UTSA as well as at select universities in the surrounding San Antonio area.
2. Effective Immediately - Texas Education Agency has voted to NOT raise the gpa requirement to 2.75. The gpa will remain a 2.5.
If you meet with any of your students please pass this info along, we are also planning to send an email out to all teacher cert students about these updates.
Thank you,
Kimberly Perez
