VPSS Restructure - Thank You!
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Dear Academic Advising Community,
President Eighmy's creation of the Vice President for Student Success Office prioritizes UTSA's focus on becoming an urban-serving institution of the future. The realignment and collaboration of units under the VPSS Office will aid the University in meeting its student success goals as well as enhance the overall student experience. As you are aware from President Eighmy's email announcement on Monday, Academic Advising and the Graduation Help Desk will report to Ms. Angelica Barrera, Interim Vice President for Student Advising & Support. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Barrera!
I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone within the Advising Community. It has been my distinct pleasure to work with each of you and I am tremendously proud of what we have accomplished together. I am confident that your great works will continue. I look forward to collaborating with you on future initiatives under the Interim Vice President for Student Success.
All the Best,
Tammy

Subject: deletion of Undeclared liberal arts for COM
After consultation with Dr. LeBlanc, I met with Crystal Harris-Harlaux in Admissions and sent a formal request to eliminate the pre-liberal arts designation for incoming freshman. This is because there is no longer a pre-com sequence in the current catalog. New admits and transfers should now go directly into The COM major with a concentration if desired. Advisors are authorized to manually make this change as needed. Further, students in older catalogs are no longer required to fulfill pre-COM requirements and can immediately be changed into the Com major with a concentration if desired.

Reminder about Online Cyber Security Courses
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
All,
Good afternoon! It was great seeing all of you yesterday at the All-Advisor Monthly Meeting!
I wanted to send a quick reminder, as we get into full swing with Fall registration, about the Online Cyber Security courses.
If you are placing an override (M1, Q1, P1, etc.) for any Business or Information Systems courses that are in the Cyber Security degree plan, please make sure you are placing section-specific overrides. Our Online Cyber Security courses are restricted to our admitted students only, due to our funding differences.
Generic overrides, unfortunately, allow students to enroll in any section, regardless of section distinction.
I have been in conversation with technical folks on campus to see if this issue can be remedied easily and have not had any success as yet so I ask for your cooperation in making sure your students are not enrolling in Online Cyber Security courses (with section CY1).
I also check enrollment periodically so if I come across anything, I will let you know!
Thanks for your time and attention today!

The Center for Military Families at the UTSA – Downtown Campus would like you to join us in Turning San Antonio Purple on Friday, April 13th in honor of Texas and San Antonio proclaiming April the month of the military child and declaring that day Purple UP! For Military Kids Day. Attached are the proclamations from both Governor Abbott and Mayor Nirenberg as well as this month’s newsletter from the Military Child Education Program. Feel free to print and post in your areas and/or share via e-mail with others.
We would like to encourage everyone to wear purple that day to show support for military children! Below are ideas from the JBSA Military Child Education School Liaison Offices on how you can show your support for military children on April 13th. We plan to tie purple ribbons on campus to honor and show appreciation to military children for all their strength and sacrifices. Please join us in any way you can... Get Your Purple On!

Subject: April Proclaimed Month of the Military Child, Celebrate Military Kids on 13 Apr, and Patriot's Express - Mar/Apr Edition - Let's Turn San Antonio Purple!
ALCON -
The time has come to honor our youngest heroes! The military child serves too - they are expected to support the mission by understanding the needs of the military when a parent deploys, they receive permanent change of station orders to relocate and when the military member has to put service before their families' needs. Since 1986, April has been declared the Month of the Military Child (MOMC) to recognize the commitment, contributions and sacrifices of military children. Gov. Abbott has signed a MOMC Proclamation for Texas (attached) for all to display proudly and bring awareness to our kids unique challenges.
PurpleUp! For Military Kids Day has been declared for Texas as April 13, 2018. We are asking schools, youth organizations, businesses and community partners to PurpleUp! so that military youth actually SEE the support in their communities. You can wear purple, tie a purple ribbon, post signs/banners, wear purple wrist bands basically anything that shows your support. We ask that if districts/campuses/businesses share on Social Media activities and celebrations (even if it’s just wearing purple)- please tag our office - Twitter: @jbsa_slo Facebook: JBSA School Liaison Offices and use the following hashtags: #milkids #MOMC #PurpleUpTexas
Texas is proud to be home to Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard and Reserve families and the second largest state in the US with military dependents ages 0-18. So help us recognize military children’s sacrifices as they serve our nation.
The March/April Patriot's Express will highlight MOMC, PurpleUp! as well as other events that will help celebrate these youth!
Get your purple on! Let's Paint TEXAS Purple!
