Hello,
The meeting minutes from the May Academic Advising Council meeting can now be found in the
AAC folder on the I:drive and on the "Meetings" page of the AAC
website<http://www.utsa.edu/aac/>. To find the AAC folder, go to I:drive -->
AcademicAdvising --> AAC. Topics for the last meeting included Stress Down Day
feedback, standard calendars, updates to the AAC by-laws, the DegreeWorks planner mandate,
and various other topics.
Below are the updates that we were going to present at the all-advising meeting on 5/5:
* Several things have been added to the AAC website: all meeting minutes that we
have from previous years in PDF format, past reports from the AAC (annual reports and
survey reports), and reports regarding advising at UTSA. The reports can all be found on
the "Reports" page.
* A page for the Interest Groups was also added to the AAC website. It simply
lists the topics each group is currently focusing on. Various documents, including meeting
notes, for these groups will remain on the I:drive for now.
* Some centers have AAC terms expiring in August (see the May meeting notes for a
list). Please let us know by the June AAC meeting (6/6) who your representative(s) will be
for the next academic year. Current representatives can be re-elected or reappointed if
their office so chooses.
o We will invite new members to our July meeting to take officer nominations and to the
August meeting for officer elections. New members will officially begin in September.
o We recommend that each center have designated "voting" and
"non-voting" members. Non-voting members can still participate in all AAC
activities and can serve in an officer position. They simply do not vote unless the voting
member is absent.
* Some changes were made to the AAC by-laws in the last few meetings. The major
changes include:
o Beginning with the upcoming 2016-2017 year, new AAC members will serve one-year terms.
Those currently serving in the first year of a two-year term will complete their second
year in 2016-2017. All AAC members will be on one-year terms beginning with the 2017-2018
year. Several factors influenced this decision and are outlined in the March meeting
minutes.
o Due to the one-year terms, whoever is elected Chair-elect will automatically receive a
second year in which to complete their term as Chair. To be eligible for the Chair-elect
position, a member must have served at least 1 year on the AAC in the past five years.
o Non-voting members are now "officially" allowed to serve in officer
positions. They have done so in the past although it wasn't technically allowed, so we
amended the by-laws to approve this practice.
* Thank you again to everyone who participated in the AAC Advisor Survey back in
March. We had 81 people answer at least part of the survey. The goal is to have the survey
report out by the end of the month.
